Bioremediation seems to be a good alternative to conventional clean-up technologies. Bioremediation has advantage over conventional physical and chemical methods such as precipitation, adsorption, electrodialysis and reverse osmosis. The aim of this work was to remove ammonia, nickel and hexavalent chromium from synthetic solutions by bioremediation technique.

Effects of industrial effluents on germination, growth, protein content and metal accumulation patterns in Hibiscus esculentus L. were studied. Effluent from two factories in the industrial belt of Cochin, Kerala were used to soak the seeds for germination and to irrigate the seedlings in the field after physico-chemical analysis.

The study involves the atomic absorption analysis of four selected heavy metals lead, cadmium, zinc and copper pollution in the soil samples of Pala municipality. A total of 120 surface soil samples (0-5 cm) and corresponding 120 sub-surface soil samples (5-10 cm) were collected from industrial, agricultural, road side and institutional areas.

The trace metal levels were studied in soil and water of Tipong, Tirap and Tikak Collieries of Makum Coal Field, Tinsukia, Assam. The toxic trace metals were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The present study evaluated the options of silt disposal from Beas Satluj Link (BSL) hydroelectric project in Himachal Pradesh in India. BSL project is basically a run of the river power project, envisages diversion of about 4700 MCM per annum of Beas river water into Satlej river falling through an elevation difference at about 320 m.

A dietary survey was carried out during summer and winter seasons on 20-40 years old subjects i.e. 23 and 49 women from sewage and tube well irrigated areas, respectively around Ludhiana city (Punjab, India).
