Sasthamkotta Lake is Kerala's biggest fresh water lake. The lake is facing degradation due to anthropogenic activities such as directing human waste, soil erosion due to destruction of vegetation and dumping of waste from hotels and slaughterhouses. The water samples from different stations were analysed from a period March 2006 to August 2006 to investigate the water quality parameters.

The Asia-Pacific marine resources are economically important to most countries. It is the centre for global mariculture. But, now, it has become a major cause of concern as this area is continuously being exposed to heavy pollution and increase in fish catch using destructive fishing techniques. The impact of aquatic pollution on lakes and marine environment is discussed in present paper.

Water quality of lake normall get contaminated every where by accumulaton of sediments, human waste, silt, organic matter, industrial waste but in India different type of religious activities (idol immersion) are taking place every year, to which other countries are not concerned. Batalagundu FISH worth Rs 12 lakh were found floating in a tank near Batalagundu in Dindigul district as the water was poisoned.Siruvankulam tank is situated near Thumbaipatti. Seven months ago, a group of 10 persons had taken the tank on lease and began rearing fish. On Thursday morning, the lessees had gone to the tank to fish and found the fish floating dead. The people of the area were told not to consume the fish. All the dead fish were buried near the tank. On a complaint by Murugan, one of the lessees, Batalagundu police have registered a case and are investigating.

Before it became a hi-tec city, Hyderabad was famously known as the city of lakes. There are over 532 water bodies in and around the state capital with Hussainsagar Lake being the most prominent one. However, rapid urbanisation in the past few decades has all but destroyed the water bodies in the city. The unending discharge of domestic and industrial effluents and sewerage has turn-ed the once-pristine lakes into cesspools. All this has also caused widespread ecological degeneration.
