District administration and DK Zilla Panchayat has prepared a pilot project to set up five solid waste disposal units in five Gram Panchayat limits.

Mysore based Bhageeratha Institute has started training Gram Panchayats in this regard from June 21 at Golthamajalu.

The government will take 29 projects involving around Tk 2,894 crore in its next five-year plan aiming to curb environment pollution.

It has decided to take a number of measures including formulation of Solid Waste Management and Handling Rules 2010 to prevent industries from dumping untreated waste, said Hasan Mahmud, the state minister for environment and forest, in the House yesterday.
