Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said provision of potable water to the masses is the priority of the government and solid measures are being taken for this purpose. He was addressing a meeting held to discuss issues related to water supply in rural areas at the Chief Minister's Secretariat here on Friday.

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has prepared a plan to install 17 Floating Solar Powered High Flow Circulators/Solar Bees and 10 Portable Wastewater Treatment Plants worth of Rs 400 million at Rawal Lake to clean contaminations from its water, sources told Daily Times on Wednesday.

The water supply project for converting and purifying saline water into pure drinking water was inaugurated and the Ambatale water supply project was developed with the funds obtained from the Government of Spain by Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, the then Minister of Water supply. Euro 13 million was obtained by the then Minister.

Speakers at a discussion yesterday said as the frequency and magnitude of natural disasters has been increasing rapidly in coastal belt due to climate change impacts, the government should take specific steps to protect some 3.48 crore people in the areas.

People living in the coastal belts are becoming more vulnerable day by day, they added.
