Himalayan Black Bear: Threat to survival
Darjeeling, May 21: For the first time in India, heat sensor cameras will be used in a survey to count Himalayan Black Bear in a wildlife sanctuary here.
NAVI MUMBAI: The Vashi police on Thursday arrested two persons for trying to sell the skin of a leopard- a species protected under the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act of 1972. Officials believe the animal must have been killed recently as the skin gave off a strong odour.
NAGAPATTINAM: Hundreds of rare species of conches, kept in 191 gunny bags for smuggling, were seized by the Forest Department officials at Nagapattinam on Saturday.
The officials are on the look out for the persons who were allegedly involved in the smuggling attempt.

Siliguri, March 4: A Red Dog has been sighted near Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary.
Commonly known as dhole, the animal had been spotted by Praloy Mondal, a vet stationed in Jaldapara, about 10 days ago. The Indian wild dog or Red Dog (cuon alpinus) is protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Act 1972.
Concerned over the fate of endangered species of wildlife in Nagaland, several district administrations of the State have started imposing ban on hunting and sale of wild animals, including birds.
