The efficient movement of goods and services is important in achieving sustainable development. All main modes of freight – road, water, air, and rail – have impacts on the economy, environment, and society that need to be managed.
This new ADB study on the current pedestrian infrastructure in 13 selected Asian cities recommends specific actions that can be undertaken by different stakeholders in improving the walkability in Asian cities.
This paper aims to stimulate debate on the quantification and mitigation of greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions from transport infrastructure, policies and projects. It also focuses on highlighting the need to intensify efforts to reduce emissions from both intra and intercity movement of people and goods.
