Pune: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation is planning to purchase 500 CNG buses, the tendering process for which is expected to start from March. While most of the buses will be used in Mumbai region, at least 15 of them will be introduced on the Pune-Mumbai route on an experimental basis, said officials.

If the first draft proposed 40% open space, Smart-City authorities have asked designers to set apart 70% of the project land for open space in the final plan. According to sources, the SmartCity authorities want the project to be an eco- friendly one. “The project would have received environmental clearance even if 30 to 40% of the project land is open space. But our decision is to provide 70% open space so that the project would be more environmental friendly,” top officials of the project said

The ecological impacts of the decision to allow construction of resorts and hotels in plantations will be assessed by the Kerala Forest Department. Minister for Forests K.B. Washington An Indian tech-firm has won a whopping grant of over USD 450,000 from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to set up eco-friendly and hygienic "eToilets", making public conveniences more accessible to the urban poor.

Thiruvananthapuram-based Eram Scientific Solutions Private Limited was awarded the grant as part of the foundation's second round of 'Reinvent the Toilet Challenge' grants totalling nearly USD 3.4 million.
