Frequent power cuts: HSC examinees, farmers worst hit

No remarkable improvement of power situation is seen in the ongoing summer season that causes huge suffering for the HSC examinees and Boro farmers. Residents and boro farmers yesterday experienced ten to sixteen hours electricity cut, according to sources.

There was 1,800MW of load shedding yesterday against the demand of 5,500MW, sources said.

Instead of a manifesto, the Bahujan Samaj Party issued an Appeal to voters. There are similarities, but enough variations in the policy positions to suggest that ideological differences play a significant role.

Key indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2008

This report describes important methodological issues involved in generating internationally comparable estimates of poverty. The special chapter, titled Comparing Poverty Across Countries: The Role of Purchasing Power Parities, also provides comparable rates of poverty using price data specific to the Asia and Pacific region, and, critically, to the poor. A major contribution of the report is to examine the sensitivity of poverty estimates to different methods for evaluating purchasing power parities (PPP).
