The execution application has been filed seeking execution of order of the Tribunal dated February 8, 2023 passed in OA No. 561/2022. In that OA, grievance was raised in respect of large-scale unregulated violation of environmental norms along the pilgrim tracks of Kedarnath, Hemkund Sahib, Yamunotri and Gomukh pilgrimage centres in Uttarakhand.

The total quantity of oily water skimmed as on December 20, 2023 is 105,280 litres and oily sludge removed as on December 20, 2023 is 393.7 tonnes and the same is sent to the CPCL premises for further treatment and disposal. Based on the news about the spreading of the oily waste in the beaches of Pulicat area on December 16, 2023 through social media, the said areas were inspected by the authorities. The team observed tar balls in the beaches adjoining Koraikuppam and Koonankuppam fishermen settlements. The tar balls were removed and about 12 kgs of waste were collected.

The Central Government is promoting the eco-friendly use of ash, especially in ash-based products manufactured by micro and small enterprises. The government has amended the ash utilization notification, originally issued on December 31, 2021. The present notification was published on January 1, 2024.
