Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of In Re: T N Godavarman Thirumulpad Vs Union of India & Others dated 10/01/2024.

Counsel for the state of Maharashtra informed the apex court that the Monitoring Committee in consultation with IIT Bombay is looking into the proposal of using clay paver blocks instead of concrete paver blocks. It is necessary to use clay paver blocks in order to prevent soil erosion.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Urvashi Shobhna Kachari Vs Union of India & Others dated 05/01/2024.

The execution application has been filed seeking execution of order of the Tribunal dated February 8, 2023 passed in OA No. 561/2022. In that OA, grievance was raised in respect of large-scale unregulated violation of environmental norms along the pilgrim tracks of Kedarnath, Hemkund Sahib, Yamunotri and Gomukh pilgrimage centres in Uttarakhand.

The total quantity of oily water skimmed as on December 20, 2023 is 105,280 litres and oily sludge removed as on December 20, 2023 is 393.7 tonnes and the same is sent to the CPCL premises for further treatment and disposal. Based on the news about the spreading of the oily waste in the beaches of Pulicat area on December 16, 2023 through social media, the said areas were inspected by the authorities. The team observed tar balls in the beaches adjoining Koraikuppam and Koonankuppam fishermen settlements. The tar balls were removed and about 12 kgs of waste were collected.

In supersession of the CRZ Notification, 2011, the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification, 2019 was notified on January 18, 2019 having specific focus on conservation and management plans of ecologically sensitive areas (ESAs) which did not feature in the CRZ Notification 2011.
