Miners are now pressuring the state government to lift the export ban to boost their business

A two-year old ban on iron ore exports from Karnataka which has halved shipments from the world's No. 3 supplier will be the focus of an industry gathering in Bangalore as pressure mounts for the restriction to be lifted. Karnataka, where iron ore mining is also severely limited, has been the poster state for India's efforts to crack down on illegal mining.

This paper addresses the mass supply and use of butterflies for live exhibits, discusses the risks to biodiversity which this creates, and the educational opportunities it presents. Over the past 30 years a new type of insect zoo has become popular worldwide: the butterfly house. This has given rise to the global Butterfly House Industry (BHI) based on the mass production of butterfly pupae as a cash crop. Production is largely carried out by privately-owned butterfly farms in tropical countries, notably Central America and Southeast Asia.

Absence of export duty and relatively low capital requirement make it an attractive option

Iron ore miners in Karnataka, facing uncertainty over possibility of exports in the near future, are increasingly looking at new opportunities to earn higher profits. A large number of miners is exploring the possibility of diversifying into manufacturing and export of pellets, because of the absence of any duty on pellet exports. At present, the demand for pellets in India is estimated at 37 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) and is projected to double to 76 mtpa by 2016-17.
