New Delhi: In India, food safety and standards are neglected topic despite being directly related to public health. According to a survey conducted by Ficci, almost 30% of the respondents, bulk of whom were from the food processing industry, were unaware that Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA) is mandatory to implement. The respondents were not even aware about the existence of such an Act.

These rules may by called the Prevention of Food Adulteration (3rd Amendment) Rules, 2010. They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette except rule 2, which shall come into force after six months from the date of publication of this notification.

Mumbai: Of all the perishable products in the Mumbai market, milk is perhaps one of the most adulterated.

The proof: In the past year, the Brihanmumbai division of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has carried out raids on 25 establishments in the city, which were involved in selling adulterated milk.

The Health Department officials expressing their helplessness to get the samples of the fruit said the consumers should be made aware of the problem. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-III here has convicted six persons in separate cases for food adulteration.

Union health min ister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday informed Parliament that Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, would come into force in the next three to four months.

The new Act makes adulteration an offence punishable with life imprisonment and also provides for penalty on manufacturers of adulterated food items up to Rs 10 lakhs.

''Low and sub-standard food is being supplied to anganwadi centres in the district from past six months, said Anganwadi Workers Association taluk committee Honourary President Gandhinagar Nagar Narayanaswamy and H S Anusuyamma.

These rules may be called the Prevention of Food Adulteration (1st Amendment) Rules, 2010. They shall come into force on the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.
