Mohali district police, in conjunction with the district health department, raided a manufacturing unit in Industrial Area, Phase VII on Tuesday. They were allegedly making spurious food products. The police have arrested Kishan Chand Bansal, his son Sonu Bansal and their employee Suresh Kumar on charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy and offences punishable under the Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and Section 16/1/A of the Prevention of Food Product Adulteration and Trade Act. The accused have been remanded in police custody for two days.

The aim of this work was to develop an analytical method for simultaneous assay of residues of two families of antibiotics, and three pesticides, in honey. The assays involved a mixture of five tetracyclines, four sulfamides, and the pesticides coumaphos, carbendazim, and amitraz (two metabolites).

Exposure to toxic methylmercury (MeHg) through fish consumption is a large problem worldwide, and it has led to governmental recommendations of reduced fish consumption and blacklisting of mercury-contaminated fish. The elimination kinetics of MeHg varies greatly among individuals. Knowledge about the reasons for such variation is of importance for improving the risk assessment for MeHg.
