Food inflation rose to a 11-week high at 9.13 per cent for the week ended June 11 on rising prices of egg, meat and fish and milk.

After a year in which food inflation reached 10 per cent, the price of basic food items in Bangladesh increased in the first half of 2011, according to a recent Oxfam report.
The report said as a net food importer, Bangladesh depends on the international market for additional food imports, and changes in global prices are expected to have a local impact.

The food price hike in 2011 has forced the poor to work harder, eat less, live more frugally than ever before, and draw on any resources or assets that they have to cope with the situation.

It was revealed in a research report released on Wednesday by the Institute of Development Studies and Oxfam GB at the latter
