As its contribution for the construction of the 135.6 km long Delhi Western Peripheral Expressway

The Delhi Cabinet on Monday approved transfer of Rs 621 crores to the National Highway Authority of India as its contribution for construction of the Delhi Western Peripheral Expressway, which is also called the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP Expressway).

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has seen an increase of over 47 per cent in its land acquisition cost in the current financial year. The highways authority now plans to use about 70 per cent of the proceeds raised through Rs 10,000-crore tax-free bonds in acquiring land for various projects.

A senior NHAI official said land acquisition cost to build one km of road has increased from Rs 85 lakh to Rs 1.25 crore in the current year. "Land rates across the country have increased. Many states are compensating more than the circle rates.

With land acquisition being a major challenge for undertaking projects in the metropolis, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to follow a model from Gujarat where land owners are made partners in the developmental projects.

The MMRDA, which plans to develop a 126-km-long multi-modal corridor(MMC) running from Virar in the north-west fringes of the city to Alibaug, which is situated on the south-eastern periphery, is planning to adopt the Gujarat model of land acquisition by making land-owners partners in the project.
