Lucknow: CNG is on its way to become the most widely used fuel in the city, courtesy air quality management plan of Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) which envisages use of better quality fuel to check air pollution. Indian Railways' plan to use state-of-the-art technology to operate Electrical Multiple Units (EMUs) in the Mumbai suburban area, primarily aimed at reducing greenhouse gases and earning them carbon credits, is now on track with the Railways Ministry finalising the project design and initiating the process of getting approval from the Environment Ministry.

The project essentially envisages adoption of a three-phase Insulated Gate Bi Polar Transistor (IGBT) technology on the three-phase EMUs in the Mumbai suburban area of the Western and Central Railways.

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to keep human pressure off Similipal Biosphere Reserve, plans are afoot to strengthen both the resource and livelihood base of 1200- odd villages in and around the sanctuary area.

A Rs 1.95-cr plan was placed before the State-Level Steering Committee that takes a call on development of biosphere. The committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, met here on Wednesday.

Currently, there are four villages in the core area of the sanctuary and 57 in the buffer zone. Another 1,200 are within a 10 km radius of the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR).
