In a departure from its business-as-usual approach, UPA-II is set to ensure accountability of its ministers manning core sector ministries. The Manmohan Singh government has now finalised plans to come out with the performance of these ministries.
New Delhi: Fuel worth Rs 100-150 crore is wasted on highways annually due to inter-state and intra-state checkpost delays and elaborate checking of documents, a recent study by logistics major Transport Corporation of India (TCI) and IIM-Calcutta has found. The joint study also claimed bad road condition resulted in reduction of average truck speed to only 20 kmph.
Last fortnight, when the world's richest Indian Lakshmi Mittal visited Kolkata, the city of his youth, he was thrilled to see change. Mittal told the media that the biggest difference he saw was the many flyovers dotting the city skyline and "disciplined traffic".
