Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director E. Sreedharan has underlined the need for forming an association of Indian metros to act as a catalyst for exchange of information among different cities planning a metro railway. Addressing a seminar here on Monday, Dr. Sreedharan also emphasised the need for standardisation in various spheres such as ticketing, train and tunnel dimension, loading standards, type of traction and design of civil structures. This, he explained, would help in reducing costs and ensuring tested quality of designs and procedures.

Way Paved For Preparing Detailed Project Report On Light Rail Transit System Too TIMES NEWS NETWORK The monorail and light rail transit (LRT) system have moved a step forward. Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) put forward a techno-economic feasibility study on the projects before Delhi government on Thursday paving the way for beginning a detailed project report (DPR) to assess its execution. The three lines of LRT and three monorail corridors are estimated to cost Rs 5,738 crore and Rs 6,893 crore respectively.

Autorickshaws and private buses are responsible for the snarls on city roads, a Besu study has revealed. The study, commissioned by the Calcutta Municipal Corporation (CMC), was conducted by the transportation engineering and planning wing of the civil engineering department under the leadership of Prof Sudip Roy. "There are over 100 auto routes in the city and the count is rising by the day,' said Roy. "Initially, an auto carried three passengers. Now, they ferry up to six in violation of traffic rules.'
