WWF has stated interest in improving the management of freshwater resources for people and nature. In addition to advocacy around government and public engagement with water resources, WWF has an interest in greater awareness and engagement of the private sector to support better management of these precious resources.

Effective water governance capacity is the foundation of efficient management of water resources. Water governance reform processes must work towards building capacity in a cohesive and articulated approach that links national policies, laws and institutions, within an enabling environment that allows for their implementation.

India continues to struggle with growing financial crunch to complete its water sector infrastructure and its operation and maintenance cost. On the other hand, inadequate institutional reforms and effective implementation has affected its performance level.
