Coal, is a primary source of energy in India and plays a critical role in economic development and growth of the country. About 55% of primary commercial energy and 70% of power generation in India are coal based. Demand of coal by 2031-32 is expected to be over 2 billion tonnes per annum, as against current consumption of around 500 million tonnes.

New Delhi: Oil minister Murli Deora on Wednesday urged the oilmarketing regulator to facilitate CNG service to people in more cities as more gas becomes available. At a meeting with members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board, he sought a firm roadmap for rollout of city gas projects and laying of supply lines.

Pune Pune will now have 10 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) outlets by mid-July and the number will go up to 18 by the end of the year. The Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has completed the laying of the 30-km CNG pipeline from Chinchwad to Shivajinagar. Just one-km stretch near College of Military Engineering (CME) is awaiting sanction from the Army.

The new Industrial Emissions directive received its first reading in the European Parliament in March, and the Council position is expected at the end of June.
