This 2009 edition of the World Disasters Report focuses on disaster risk reduction. It argues that early warning without early action is not enough and calls for cost-effective prevention measures, rather than the expensive response operations.

This document details the guidelines aimed at institutionalising the landslide hazard mitigation efforts, to make society aware of the various aspects of landslide hazard in the country and to prepare the society to take suitable action to reduce both risks and costs associated with this hazard. Includes regulatory and non-regulatory frameworks with defined time schedules for all activities.

The international Commission on Climate Change and Development is launching its final report on the 14th of May at the UN, with participation of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
