The London Congestion Charging Scheme (CCS) – which charged for travel into central London and reduced traffic volume – showed little evidence that it improved air quality, according to a study published by the Health Effects Institute (HEI).

GUWAHATI, April 11

This report contains studies in Chennai and Delhi led by Dr. Kalpana Balakrishnan and Dr. Uma Rajarathnam, respectively.

The Central Government has undertaken a study, i.e., ‘Air Quality Monitoring, Emission Inventory and Source Apportionment Study for (six) Indian Cities’, namely, Delhi, Kanpur, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai and Bengaluru with the help of premier institutions like, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Madras, NEERI-Nagpur, TERI-New Delhi and ARAI-Pune for identifying the various mobile and stationary

Building an effective air quality management system (AQMS) requires a process of continual improvement, and the source apportionment techniques described in this report can contribute in a cost effective manner to improving existing systems or even as the first step to begin an AQMS.

This is a critical analysis by CSE of the new six-city study on air pollution sources released by Central Pollution Control Board. Says that auto industry is misusing the study to derail tighter emissions standards and encourage polluting diesel cars.

NEW DELHI: Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) questioned the environment ministry's six-city study on air pollution on Tuesday, claiming it grossly underestimated automobile pollution.

The Delhi-based NGO said the auto industry is taking advantage of this bias in the report, quoting it selectively to derive maximum mileage.

The study will contribute to the field of both economic and environment study as it will provide empirical basis to support or negate the EKC phenomenon for Asian countries.

A report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has expressed concern over air pollution in Pune due to dust and vehicle emissions, and has called for raising the standards of road infrastructure and public transport in the city.
