New research, commissioned by the India Committee of the Netherlands and Stop Child Labour, reveals that modern slavery, low wages, unsafe and unhealthy working conditions are rampant in granite quarries in South India. In some quarries, especially in waste stone processing, child labour is found.

The task force on improving employment data headed by Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya has suggested frequent surveys, extensive use of GSTN data and a dedicated central facility to improve India’s employment statistics.

ILO report says indigenous peoples are key to the success of policies combating climate change.

The principles laid down in the Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration) offer guidelines to multinational enterprises, governments, and employers’ and workers’ organizations in such areas as employment, training, conditions of work and life, and industrial relations.

Recent evidence suggests that a significant number of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act workers are not paid at all for their work. An analysis of this phenomenon revealed that the increasing dependence on technology in the implementation of the act is creating new hurdles for wage payments.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on MGNREGS, 09/02/2017. Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) is a demand driven programme. Hence no State/UT- wise allocation of fund is made. The Central funds are released to the States/UTs including Uttar Pradesh on the basis of agreed to Labour Budget and taking into consideration the performance and the pace of utilization of available funds.
