The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has asked Graphite India Ltd to close its Bangalore plant till further orders, citing environmental pollution.

Gujarat High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Union government on a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging notification giving Pune bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) jurisdiction for cases from the state of Gujarat.

A division bench of acting chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya and Justice J B Pardiwala also issued notice to the NGT and has scheduled next hearing after a fortnight.

PANJIM: National Green Tribunal Wednesday issued notices to six states, including Goa and Union Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF), in response to the petition filed by five non-government organisations (NGOs) vis-à-vis Gadgil panel report on the Western Ghats.

The NGOs in their petition filed before the tribunal had pleaded that the State government, pollution control authorities, environment impact assessment authorities and MoEF should not issue any consent for projects in Eco-Sensitive Zones – I and II, demarcated by the Gadgil panel.
