Interacting storm surges and high water runoff can cause compound flooding (CF) in low-lying coasts and river estuaries. The large-scale CF hazard has been typically studied using proxies such as the concurrence of storm surge extremes either with precipitation or with river discharge extremes. Here the impact of the choice of such proxies is addressed employing state-of-the-art global datasets.

Flood Re is a governmental scheme which, among other things, guarantees insurance affordability and encourages self-protection. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are vital for local economies; their survival is one of the holy grails of economic recovery when flooding impacts communities.

This book discusses the impact of human-induced global climate change on the regional climate and monsoons of the Indian subcontinent, adjoining Indian Ocean and the Himalayas.

The March to May (MAM) rainfall period was one of the wettest the region has seen since 1981, following an already record wet 2019 October to December (OND) rainfall period.

Land degradation exacerbates the unique vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to environmental challenges, such as climate change, flash floods, soil erosion, lagoon siltation, coastal erosion and sea level rise, undermining their economic potential.

The number of internally displaced people (IDPs) around the world has reached an all-time high, according to a new report from the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC), part of the Norwegian Refugee Council. This year's GRID breaks down data by conflict, violence and disasters across 145 countries.

An integrated modeling approach for simulating flood events is presented in the current study. An advanced flood forecasting model, which is based on the coupling of hydrological and atmospheric components, was used for a twofold objective: first to investigate the potential of a coupled hydrometeorological model to be used for flood forecasting at two drainage basins in the area of Attica (Greece) and second to investigate the influence of the use of the coupled hydrometeorological model on the improvement of the precipitation forecast skill.

Climate change is increasing the destructive power of flooding from extreme rain and from rising seas and rivers. Many cities around the world are exposed. Strong winds during storms and hurricanes can drive coastal flooding through storm surge. As hurricanes and storms become more severe, surge height increases.

Climate-related security risks are increasingly compounding existing political, social and economic challenges worldwide, with natural resources like water posing risks for geopolitical tensions and violent conflict.
