State of the timber sector in Central African Republic 2016

The Central African Republic (CAR) has a total land area of 623,000 km2 of which close to 23 million hectares, i.e. 37%, is composed of forested lands. In the southwestern part of the country all forest operations are industrial. At present there are 11 logging companies, with an average annual production of close to 400,000 m3.

Global forest products 2016: facts and figures

Global production of major wood products surged in 2016 for the seventh consecutive year with a growth rate of three to six percent, according to new data published by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization. The fastest increase in major wood products (industrial roundwood, sawnwood, wood-based panels, wood pellets) occurred in Asia-Pacific, Northern America and Europe driven by positive economic growth, new manufacturing capacities in Eastern Europe, particularly for particleboard and Oriented Strand Board (OSB), as well as growing demand for bioenergy.

Judgement of the Supreme Court of India regarding transit fee levied by states on forest products and minerals among others, 15/09/2017

Judgement of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of State of Uttarakhand & Others Vs Kumaon Stone Crusher dated 15/09/2017 regarding transit fee levied by three States (Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh) on forest products and minerals among others.

The writ petitioners from whom the transit fee was realised with effect from 01.05.2016 in accordance with the Fifth Amendment to 1978 Rules shall be entitled to claim for refund along with interest @ 9% which shall be considered by the State or any officer authorised by the State.
