The report looks at water governance in the Man basin, a medium sized sub-basin of the Narmada river basin in tribal dominated western Madhya Pradesh. It deals with problematic issues of water governance in the basin and generates insights and guidelines that are important for both grassroots and policy level interventions in future.

Water practitioners are increasingly called upon to negotiate workable agreements about how to best use, manage and care for water resources.

Transboundary watercourses pose a variety of challenges to the management of water resources. Basin-wide management approaches often clash with state sovereignty. Efforts in cooperatively managing shared water resources are therefore of great importance for the sustainable management of transboundary river and lake basins.
