AIZAWL, Feb 2: Malaria, which claimed 119 lives in Mizoram during last year, remains the biggest killer disease in this Northeast State. According to the Health Department records, 1,71,793 people hot their blood tested and 9,399 had tested positive for malaria during 2009. The victims aged between 1 to 64, of which 40 were females.

Despite advances in mapping the geographical distribution and intensity of malaria transmission, the ability to provide strategic, evidence-based advice for malaria control programmes remains constrained by the lack of range maps of the dominant Anopheles vectors of human malaria.
