Mumbai: Going green with brakes could be a new mantra in India

California's governor on Tuesday ordered that a third of the state's electricity come from renewable resources by 2020, the same amount as a legislature plan but with promises to let power companies get more electricity from outside the state.

New Delhi: The Indian automobile sector swore by the environment at its annual convention on Friday. With global automobile giants like General Motors and Toyota increasing their bets on Indian market, projected to grow at 10% this year, the new president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Pawan Goenka said environment issues have to be dealt with squarely by the industry.

The Obama administration on Tuesday approved California's long-standing bid to set its own tough standards for vehicle emissions, a decision in tune with a national plan to boost fuel efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases linked to climate change.

Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Bandula Wijeratna yesterday said that special provision had been made for the convenience of all vehicle owners in the Southern, Central and North -Central Provinces to obtain their emission test certificates in their own provinces from yesterday(22).
