JHABUA (MADHYA PRADESH): If it does not rain over the next week, farmers of Petlawad tehsil and its neighbouring regions in Jhabua might have to go the same way as their brethren in Vidarbha did.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan recently declared Jhabua, along with 36 other districts, drought-hit.

`The earth is our mother. It is time we give her the protection she deserves from heat and pollution.'

With the onset of monsoon, Madhya Pradesh's Jhabua district was experiencing heavy rains for the fifth day today disrupting power and potable water supply, official sources said.
The uninterrupted rains created havoc in this tribal-dominated district as more than dozen power poles were uprooted and overhead wires were also snapped due to falling of trees at Rapa town.

Despite arrival of Monsoon, Madhya Pradesh was yet to experience adequate rains so far and the state received moderate to heavy rains in some areas in the last 24 hours, Regional Meteorological Department sources said today.

The state, however, might receive heavy rains in two or three days as low pressure areas were being formed in Bay of Bengal and Arabian sea, the sources said.

This latest UNEP report systematically synthesises the close links between human well-being and ecosystem services through a number of rainwater harvesting cases. The cases are organised into thematic chapters addressing rainwater harvesting systems, their roles and their impacts.
