The “Taste of India” has widened its frontiers even further. Having revolutionised the milk sector in many parts of the country, the owner of brand Amul, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), on Wednesday started operations on the country’s biggest dairy plant in Dharuhera in Haryana.

This dairy is expected to cater to the daily needs for milk and milk products of not only Haryana residents but those of Delhi and NCR too which is the world’s second largest urban aggregation by population.

Jaipur: The much hyped campaign ‘Shudh Ke Liye Yudh’ of the food and civil supplies department seems to have faded into the oblivion. It appears that neither the medical and health department nor thedistrictsuppliesoffices are sincere towards checking food adulteration especially when festivals are round the corner.

Launched on June 22, 2009, the state government claimed to have opened a front against the war on the food adulteration with the campaign ‘Shudh Ke Liye Yudh’ in which the former food and civil supplies minister Babu Lal Nagar was seen a bit enthusiastic. The mobile van which was inaugurated to take food samples for testing seems to have vanished into thin air.

New Delhi Global food prices rose by 1.4 per cent in September due to strengthening of cereals,dairy and meat prices, United Nation's body FAO said today.

"Following two months of stability, the FAO Food Price Index rose slightly in September 2012, up 1.4 per cent, or 3 points, from its level in August," FAO said in a statement. FAO's Food Price Index (FFPI) is a monthly measure of change in international prices of 55 commodities.

The NSS consumer expenditure survey (CES) aims at generating estimates of average household monthly per capita consumer expenditure (MPCE), its distribution over households and persons, and its break-up by commodity group, at national and State/UT level, and for different socio-economic groups.

Aimed at achieving 15 per cent growth in milk production in the district, the Department of Animal Husbandry has formulated a `71 lakh initiative for setting up dairy farms and milk shed development projects.

A Rs 27.03 lakh project has also been formulated to promote fodder crop cultivation, said Dairy Development Board deputy director V Unni. Financial assistance will be provided to those who are ready to set up farm units

The government has extended ban on import of milk and its production from China for one more year.

A notification to this effect was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade late Monday evening which says that milk and its products would continue to be banned from China until June 23, 2012 or further orders, whichever is earlier. The prohibition of import includes chocolates and chocolate products and candies/ confectionary/ food preparations with milk or milk solids as an ingredient.

New Delhi India on Monday extended the ban on milk and milk products from China for another year till June 2013, according to the foreign trade office.

"Prohibition on import of milk and milk products (including chocolates and chocolate products and candies/confectionary/ food preparations with milk or milk solids as an ingredient) from China is further extended till June 2013, or until further orders," the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification.

After cement industry, CCI to deliver order on tyre companies soon

After having acted tough on cement companies for cartelisation, Competition Commission of India (CCI) has taken up a suo-moto inquiry against milk retailing players. The milk retailers were alleged to have indulged into price cartelisation by making frequent price rise in a short span of time. The competition watchdog has decided to take an inquiry on its own to decide if the milk companies and cooperatives operational in the country are guilty of cartelisation or not.
