New species of bryophytes found

BHUBANESWAR: A team of plant scientists which mapped Khandadhar hill forests in Keonjhar has claimed to have spotted 29 new species of bryophytes in the region.

These bryophytes, land plants without any flower or seed which reproduce by way of spores, have been reported for the first time in Orissa.

Oil Refiners To Pay $141 Million Over Pollution

WASHINGTON - Two oil refiners in Wyoming and Kansas have agreed to pay a total of $141 million to settle air pollution violations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said on Tuesday.

Frontier Oil Corp is set to pay a $1.23 million civil penalty and spend about $127 million on pollution control upgrades for alleged violations at its refineries in Cheyenne, Wyoming and El Dorado, Kansas.

Feasibility studies on the treatment (RO Units) of tannery wastewater

The Tannery sector is one of the most important highly water polluting industrial category. India has about 3,000 tanneries with a total processing capacity of 700,000 tons of hides and skins per year.
