New Delhi: The Ganga will be pure and free of pollutants by 2020, the Centre promised before the SC on Friday.

The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) has come forward to help conservation of river dolphins with schoolchildren being a core part of the team.

The target is to reach out to almost 120-125 schools in the state which will be divided into five clusters, including Subansiri to Biswanath Ghat, Guwahati and North Guwahati, Kukurmara, Goalpara and Dibru river near Tinsukia.

The facts: Some dolphin species face an uncertain future, especially river species such as the Amazon River Dolphin, and the Ganges and Yangtze River Dolphin, all of whom are critically or seriously endangered. A 2006 survey found no individuals of the Yangtze River Dolphin, leading to the conclusion that the species is now functionally extinct.
