BHUBANESWAR: The Biju Patnaik airport is set to get ISO-14001 tag, a recognition given to airports by international organization for standardization, Geneva, for meeting environmental parameters.

The Neyveli Thermal Power Station-I Expansion has been chosen for the silver shield of the National Environment Management Award among coal/lignite-based thermal power stations for 2012-13.

The plant, with two units, can generate 420 MW of power (4,20,000 units per hour). The first unit of this Power Station was synchronized in October 2002 and the second unit in July 2003. The power generated by the TPS is being shared among southern States including Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

पर्यावरण के मुद्दों पर भारत की स्थिति बदतर होती जा रही है। एनवायरनमेंटल परफॉरमेंस इंडेक्स (ईपीआई) की लिस्ट में भारत 155वें स्थान पर पहुंच गया है। यह रैंकिंग भारत के खाते में आए 31.23 पॉइंट्स के आधार पर तय की गई है। इंडेक्स में पड़ोसी देश नेपाल और पाकिस्तान की स्थिति भारत से बेहतर है। ईपीआई ने 178 देशों की लिस्ट जारी की है।

Davos : India has been ranked at a low 155th position in a global list that places countries on how well they perform on high-priority environmental issues.

The 2014 Environmental Performance Index (EPI), released today here, has ranked 178 countries in total. Among them, India is placed at the 155th position, with an index score of 31.23 points. Its rank is also much lower than BRICS peers.

The year 2013 was a wasted one. How can 2014 be different? When I look back on the year, I think of a cacophony.
