Slum Dwellers Remain Without Any Basic Facilities

Not a single slum in Rajasthan is recognized by the state government leaving the entire population of slum dwellers without any basic facilities provided by the state. According to the primary census abstract for slum 2011, released on Monday, Rajasthan has 20.68 lakh identified slums.

Over a third of the slum population in India lives without any basic facility being provided by the state as the slums are not recognized. In the case of some states like Rajasthan, Gujarat and Bihar, the entire slum population of several lakhs remains unrecognized by the state governments.
