This is the report of the expert committee set up by agriculture ministry as per order of Delhi High Court to frame a policy for Monitoring of Pesticide Residues in Fruits & Vegetables.

The annual Joint Meeting of the FAO Panel of Experts on Pesticide Residues in Food and the Environment and the WHO Core Assessment Group on Pesticide Residues was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 17 to 26 September 2013. The FAO Panel of Experts had met in preparatory sessions from 6 to 10 September.

Of the 234 pesticides registered by the Central Insecticides Board and Registered Committee 59 do not have set MRLs, shows this CSE study on the state of pesticide regulations in India from a food safety perspective in the light of recommendations made by the Joint Parliamentary Committee.

The Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture is running a central sector scheme, "Monitoring of Pesticide Residues at National Level" in food commodities and environmental samples since 2005-06 with the participation of various laboratories representing Ministry of Agriculture, ICAR, Ministry of Health and Family Welfar

The book throws light on classification of pesticide active ingredients on the basis of their toxicity to non-target organism by latest WHO covering information on all the 230 pesticides registered in India as on May, 2011. It includes trade name, registered formulations, target pests and crops which they are applied to, dose of application, waiting period and their mode of action.
