The tribunal officer carrying out a probe into the Sorrange coalmine accident which claimed lives of dozens of miners, has directed officials of the Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) to present a report on the issue at the next hearing of the tribunal.

Methane gas explosions at a coalmine in the Sorrange area on March 20 had killed 43 miners and, according to officials, the mine h

We evaluate the greenhouse gas footprint of natural gas obtained by highvolume hydraulic fracturing from shale formations, focusing on methane emissions. Natural gas is composed largely of methane, and 3.6% to 7.9% of the methane from shale-gas production escapes to the atmosphere in venting and leaks over the lifetime of a well. These methane emissions are at least 30% more than and perhaps more than twice as great as those from conventional gas.

Most scientists agree that human activity that releases carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere is the dominant cause of climate change. The current concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is around 380 parts per million (ppm), up from 280 ppm in pre-industrial times. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

In the energy-poor country of Rwanda only 10% of households have an electricity connection. But scientists have now discovered a renewable energy source in the depths of Lake Kivu: methane gas. Rwanda aims to soon be generating so much electricity from this that it will be able to export to neighbouring countries too.

As part of the Global Methane Initiative, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S.

We present a 650-year Antarctic ice core record of concentration and isotopic ratios (δ13C and δ18O) of atmospheric carbon monoxide. Concentrations decreased by ~25% (14 parts per billion by volume) from the mid-1300s to the 1600s then recovered completely by the late 1800s.

Carbon emission occurs during various stages of life cycle of food products. Greenhouse gases (GHG) emission from 24 Indian food items showed that animal food products (meat and milk) and rice cultivation mostly contributed to methane (CH4) emission, while food products from crops contributed to emission of nitrous oxide (N2O). Emission of CO2 occurred during farm operations, production of farm inputs, transport, processing and preparation of food.

In the present studies, attempts are made to optimize digestion time, initial feed pH, feed temperature and feed flow rate (organic loading rate, OLR) for maximum yield of methane gas and maximum removal of chemical oxygen demand and biological oxygen demand (BOD) of food processing industry wastewaters in three-phase fluidized bed bioreactor.

The UN sponsored discussions to prepare a global convention on climate began in February in USA. The aim is to prepare a legally binding convention to curb gaseous emissions leading to a much feared climate destabilisation. This convention is being seen as the world's greatest commitment to the environment and its future generations.
