Nearly 400 households in Palakkad municipal area in Kerala enjoy a special relationship with their morning cup of tea. A code printed on the milk bottles delivered to their doorstep identifies not just the farmer but even the cow providing their daily supply of milk.

ALREADY hit by a hike in fuel prices, people in Delhi and the NCR now will have to fork out more for their milk as well, with the biggest supplier Mother Dairy hiking prices by up to Rs 2 a litre.

The increase comes on the heels of another supplier Amul raising the price by the same amount on Friday.

Shimla: The NABARD-funded Doodh Ganga scheme has taken off on a flying note with as many as 1,123 individuals and self-help groups (SHGs) securing loans to the tune of Rs 22.96 crore by March 31 last, within five months of the launch of the scheme. The beneficiaries were provided interest free loan of Rs 11.48 crore under the scheme to boost milk production in the state.

Directive 96/23/EC lays down measures to monitor the substances and groups of residues listed in Annex I thereto.

Mumbai: Of all the perishable products in the Mumbai market, milk is perhaps one of the most adulterated.

The proof: In the past year, the Brihanmumbai division of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has carried out raids on 25 establishments in the city, which were involved in selling adulterated milk.

On the occasion of World Milk Day on June 1, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), urged people to shun milk from their diet, stressing that the dairy industry was wreaking cruelty on cattle daily, to maximise milk production.

International prices of key food staples have dropped during the first five months of 2010 according to the latest edition of FAO's biannual Food Outlook report. The FAO Food Price Index averaged 164 points in May 2010, down from 174 points in January and substantially less than its peak of 214 in the spring of 2008, the report notes.
