Research study on water and development which also looks into Trans-water boundary water conflict in South Asia as it recognizes that there is need to address the issues of politics of water, conflict and peace from a regional perspective.

The most important practical and critical problem related to the performance of reservoirs is the estimation of storage capacity loss due to sedimentation process. Remote sensing and GIS techniques have proved to be efficient tools in drainage delineation and their updation. These updated drainages have been used for the morphometric analysis. The morphometric analysis was carried out through measurement of linear, areal and relief aspects of basins.

It is an area of continued interest and debate in both the policy literature and popular press at the international level. In India too, the states are in conflict with each other on a variety of issues over sharing of inter-state river waters.

Sikkim is facing great challenge to protect the natural resource from land degradation and erosion. The whole state of Sikkim is hilly and cris-crossed by number of streams. Soil erosion is one of the major problems. The hills of Sikkim mainly consist of gneissose and half-schistose rocks, making their soil brown clay, and generally poor and shallow.
