Large-scale deforestation is rapidly increasing environmental degradation causing rise in several fatal diseases in Pakistan and efforts should be made to stretch the forest cover to 6percent by 2015 under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

KOLKATA, April 2: After the state government rejected a proposal by the Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) to acquire 2,500 acres of land for dumping dredged soil near Nandigram, the port authorities have urged the Centre to help them purchase land for the process.
