2019 marks the 22nd edition of Key World Energy Statistics (KWES) – the annual booklet of the IEA’s most used statistics. Key World Energy Statistics contains timely, clearly presented data on the supply, transformation and consumption of all major energy sources for the main regions of the world, in addition to energy indicators, energy balances, prices, RDD and CO2 emissions as well as energy forecasts.

Environmental Accounting for a mega-diverse country like India is packed with challenges – from requirements of huge datasets and several microscopic studies to synchronising all of these so that they speak to each other and can yield consistent estimates. An implementation plan for environment accounting was drawn by the Expert Group on “Green National Accounts in India”, constituted under the Chairmanship of Prof. Sir Partha Dasgupta.

This issue of National Accounts Statistics (NAS), presents the estimates of macro-economic aggregates along with detailed disaggregated statements and institutional sector accounts for the years from 2011-12 to 2017-18 with 2011-12 as base year. Besides these estimates, this publication also includes provisional estimates of National Income for the year 2018-19 and quarterly estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the years from 2011-12 to 2018-19.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Groundwater Resources in India, 27/06/2019. Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) carries out ground water monitoring, four times a year, on regional scale through a network of observation wells in the Country. As per the pre-monsoon water level data (2018), the deeper ground water level (more than 40 meters below ground level) has been observed in the isolated pockets in some of the States/UTs. State-wise depth to water level and distribution of percentage of wells for the Period of Pre-monsoon, 2018 is given at Annexure I.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Crop Insurance Schemes, 25/06/2019. State-wise details of claim ratio during 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 (Provisional for Kharif 2018 season only as complete data is not available for Rabi 2018-19) are Annexed.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Pollution in Rivers, 21/06/2019. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in association with State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs)/ Pollution Control Committees (PCCs) monitors the water quality of rivers across the country through a network of monitoring stations under the National Water Quality Monitoring Programme. The criteria/norms of standard level water pollution for major rivers are generally based on Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD)levels, a key indicator of organic pollution.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on Poaching and Trafficking of Wildlife, 21/06/2019. Confirmed cases of poaching and seizures from the year 2012 to 2018 are at Annexure-I. The steps taken/being taken by the Government of India through the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to check poaching is at Annexure-II.
