Therefore, understanding influences on non-automotive travel behavior is crucial. Researchers and planners have touted specific factors for encouraging walking and biking, but the body of work remains fragmented. Previous studies have focused on a smaller number of factors and most of them relate to physical design.

Shifting to active modes of transport in the trip to work can achieve substantial co-benefits for health, social equity, and climate change mitigation. Previous integrated modeling of transport scenarios has assumed active transport mode share and has been unable to incorporate acknowledged system feedbacks. The researchers compared the effects of policies to increase bicycle commuting in a car-dominated city and explored the role of participatory modeling to support transport planning in the face of complexity.

साउथ दिल्ली में पर्यावरण को बचाने, पब्लिक ट्रांसपोर्ट को बढ़ावा देने और हेल्थ के प्रति लोगों को जागरूक बनाने के मकसद से साउथ एमसीडी अनूठी पहल करने जा रही है। इसके तहत निगम जल्द ही साइकिल शेयरिंग सिस्टम शुरू करने जा रही है, जिसमें लोग एक पॉइंट से साइकल लेकर उसे दूसरे पॉइंट पर छोड़ सकेंगे। इस सर्विस के लिए लोगों को मामूली यूजर फीस देनी होगी। रोज साइकल का इस्तेमाल करने वाले लोग मेट्रो की तरह स्मार्ट कार्ड भी ले सकेंगे। साइकलों की निगरानी के लिए उनमें जीपीएस डिवाइस भी लगाए जाएंगे। साइकल खड़ी करने के लिए स्टैंड और अलग लेन भी मार्क की जाएगी।
