India has been embracing regionalism in a big way in recent years. Regional trade agreements are growing not only in number but also in their depth and coverage, thus diverting a significant portion of India’s trade through the preferential route. Such a trade promotion strategy emphasises market access rather than deal with supply-side efficiencies.

The World Economic Outlook (WEO) presents the analysis and projections of economic developments at the global level, in major country groups (classified by region, stage of development, etc.), and in many individual countries. It focuses on major economic policy issues as well as on the analysis of economic developments and prospects.

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has published a report on incentives for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. This report is the final output of the third international workshop on incentive measures held in Paris, France, from 6-8 October 2009.

Energy is of paramount importance in the context of environment & sustainable development. Petroleum and natural gas play a major role in energy security in India. Around 80% of oil has to be imported and thereby underlines its importance.

The report highlights the continued challenge posed by high unemployment rates in many economies and outlines a number of risks and uncertainties for the economic outlook such as a premature withdrawal of policy stimulus, increased exchange rate volatility and a renewed widening of global imbalances.

The World Trade Report 2010 focuses on trade in natural resources, such as fuels, forestry, mining and fisheries. The Report examines the characteristics of trade in natural resources, the policy choices available to governments and the role of international cooperation, particularly of the WTO, in the proper management of trade in this sector.
