India and the United States have tremendous opportunity for cooperation in the domain of clean technologies to ensure sustainable energy security for both countries. A joint report by the Atlantic Council and CII, suggests that expanding cooperation will be essential to overcoming energy shortages in the coming decades.

The purpose of this summary report is to highlight energy efficiency policy action and planning in IEA member countries since the last meeting of the Energy Efficiency Working Party (EEWP) held in January 2010.

This paper looks at three clean energy product categories: equipment energy efficiency; low-carbon transport, including high-efficiency vehicles and electric/plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (EV/PHEVs); and solar photovoltaic (PV) power.

Transportation mobility in India has increased significantly in the past decades. From1970 to 2000, motorized mobility (passenger-km) has risen by 888%, compared with an 88% population growth. This contributed to many energy and environmental issues, and an energy strategy incorporates efficiency improvement and other measures needs to be designed.

This study of residential and transport sectoral energy use in India is part of a larger effort at LBNL to provide analysis of energy use patterns at the level of sub-sectors and end uses for all sectors. There are two motivations for this effort.
