The biggest mystery on the day of the interim Budget had to do with the rollovers for the next financial year on the subsidy front. Increases food subsidy by a whopping Rs 23,000 crore

As government seeks to roll out the food law, Finance Minister P Chidambaram today sought to raise total subsidies on fuel, food and fertilisers to over Rs 2.46 lakh crore in the 2014-15 fiscal.

Proposing no fresh taxes in a populist budget for 2014-15, Jammu and Kashmir Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather on Thursday declared the State’s agriculture and horticulture sectors fully tax-free for the next financial year.

Replying to question in the Rajya Sabha on role of chemicals and fertilizers in land degradation Tariq Anwar, the Minister Of Agriculture And Food Processing Industries said that "the Government is promoting balanced use of fertilizers through soil test based judicious use of chemical fertilizers in conjunction with organic manures, use of customized fertilizers etc to minimize adverse effect on the agricultural land" and also presented statewise-data on the arable degraded lands.
