The Andhra Pradesh Government has prohibited fishing activities on sea in the territorial limits of the State by all mechanised and motorised fishing vessels from April 15 to June 15. The non-motorised traditional fishing crafts have been, however, exempted from the prohibition. The main objective of the order is to observe conservancy measures during breeding season of prawn and fish.

In the coastal community of Chabihau, Yucatan, Mexico, hurricanes Gilbert (1988) and Isidore (2002) opened breaches in the coastal dune. The government modified these breaches with a floodgate, channels, and bridges, allowing tidal influx that has transformed the swamp ecosystem into a coastal lagoon.

Marsh Mongoose Herpestes palustris is the only extant endemic mammal of the East Kolkata wetlands, which has been declared a RAMSAR site in 2002. Since its first description by the scientists of the Zoological Survey of India, the population of this species has dwindled to an alarming state due to reclamation of the Salt Lake City and Rajarhat expansion, as well as from other anthropogenic causes. Recently, during a field survey only a small population of this endangered mongoose was found in a single location.
