This paper measures the relative performance of twenty depots of Haryana State Road Transport (HSRT) for the year 2006-07 using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). This study identifies the relatively efficient and inefficient depots, sets benchmarks for the relative inefficient depots and suggests alternative actions that would make inefficient depots improve their efficiency.

Is there a case for continuing with planning and persisting with practices that on the face of it seem to be irrelevant? This article draws attention to the need to define the role of planning and the Planning Commission in the economy post-liberalisation with greater clarity and to reform the institutions that are supposed to support the planning process to make them relevant and effective. With control over investment in the private sector beyond the purview of the Planning Commission, development planning can at best be indicative.

The triumph of dairy industry is extremely influenced by operations, viz., procurement of milk, processing and distribution of milk and its products. Among these three components, milk procurement is the edifice of the dairy industry on which economic efficiency of dairy industry lies.
