This Ministry has formulated a National Perspective Plan (NPP) for Water Resources Development envisaging inter-basin transfer of water from surplus basins to deficit basins/ areas. Based on surveys, investigations and detailed studies, National Water Development Agency (NWDA) has prepared pre-feasibility reports, which facilitated identification of 30 links (16 under Peninsular Component & 14 under Himalayan Component) under the NPP.

Question raised in Lok Sabha on illegal mining, 30/11/2015. State Governments are empowered, under Section 23C of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957 (MMDR Act, 1957) to make rules for prevention of illegal mining, transportation and storage of minerals; and, therefore, matters relating to illegal mining come under the legislative and administrative jurisdiction of State Governments.

India had reported over 5,800 environment related crimes last year with maximum over 83% of it being recorded for violation of the Forest Act, 1927 where the offenders were booked for illegally cutting trees in forest areas and transiting forest produce without required permission. The figures of environment related crimes in the country, compiled for the first time by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) of the home ministry, reveal that over 8,600 persons were arrested in connection with alleged violation of all these environment related laws in 2014.
