More than 1.5 billion smallholders throughout the world depend on forest landscapes to produce food, fuel, timber and non-wood forest products to meet their subsistence needs and generate cash income.

Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) has been promoted since 2011 to increase productivity, improve resilience to climate variability and change and reduce greenhouse gas emission, where feasible, in farming systems globally and especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

This atlas provides habitat suitability maps for 54 species that are widely used in Central America for shade in coffee or cocoa agroforestry systems. The 54 species represent 24 fruit species, 24 timber species and 6 species used for soil fertility improvement.
