As governments struggle with a sudden crisis caused by significant and rapid increases in the price of food, a companion crisis in availability of water also threatens billions of people. A hidden problem behind the food crisis is that as much as half of all food grown is lost or wasted before and after it reaches the consumer. And this wasted food is wasted water too. To meet the challenge of feeding growing populations and the global hungry, massive reductions in the amount of food wasted after production are needed.

This report describes important methodological issues involved in generating internationally comparable estimates of poverty. The special chapter, titled Comparing Poverty Across Countries: The Role of Purchasing Power Parities, also provides comparable rates of poverty using price data specific to the Asia and Pacific region, and, critically, to the poor. A major contribution of the report is to examine the sensitivity of poverty estimates to different methods for evaluating purchasing power parities (PPP).

This paper describes ways to improve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) transportation and parking credits. Typical LEED programs reduce building energy consumption 20-60%. Cost effective mobility and parking management programs often provide similar motor vehicle trip and parking generation reductions, resulting in large economic, social and environmental benefits. However, the current LEED rating system overlooks some of the most effective mobility and parking management strategies.

This present report further calls attention to the dangerous and urgent situation that persists and has intensified in the northeast states of India as a result of India

Nuclear energy will enable India to meet the twin challenges of energy security and environmental sustainability. It will also have major spin-offs for the development of the industries, both public and private. The 123 Agreement between India and United States of America would put an end to technology denial regimes against India that have been in place for three decades and end India's nuclear isolation. It will open the doors for India to have civil nuclear cooperation as an equal partner with the USA and the rest of the world.

This paper synthesizes principles and concepts about how voluntary carbon market compensation for reduced deforestation - market-based REDD - can help cut global emissions equitably and effectively, while contributing to development goals, protecting biodiversity and watersheds and benefitting indigenous and rural peoples and tropical nations. Several of these principles have also been articulated by various governments as well as Amazonian social movements. This paper also addresses questions that some NGOs and policy makers have raised about how REDD would work.
